| Dear Steve and Jon, I read that an employment interview should be followed up by a thank you note. From there on the instructions vary by suggesting everything from a hand written note to a formal business letter and even an email. What do you suggest? Signed: Mixed Instructions |
Dear Mixed, More important is what you include in your note. First of all, remember it is a note, so keep it brief and to the point. Thank the interviewer, and then mention only your one or two top accomplishments that would be most relative to the job. Then enclose an article you found on the internet or in a trade publication that relates to some part of your interview discussion. |
Dear Without, Because of the professional level of my firm’s typical job assignment, I favor a formal business letter. It serves as an example of the candidate’s writing skills, but it is primarily for the purpose of reminding the hiring official of the candidate’s strongest attributes, and values to the company. It is ideally to be delivered at the specific time when a hiring decision is most likely ready to be mad. |
