Dear Steve and Jon, During the employment interview, what is the most important question I should ask the hiring official? Signed: Important Question |

Dear Question, As part of your preparation for the interview, you should plan several good questions to ask. Here are my favorites: “What do you want done differently by the next person to fill this job?” “What seem to be the characteristics of your most successful employees?” Lastly, if you like the job, say so: “I am very interested in your company and the job. When should I expect to hear back from you?” |
Dear Question, We know that until you have a job offer in hand your questions should be totally aimed at getting that offer, not at gathering information. The most effective question I have heard to accomplish this has been, “Assuming you hire me, what can I do the first day I am onboard to help get you where you want to be?” |
